Therapy for first responders.
Police officers and first responders face critical incidents, tough decisions, organizational stress, and challenging outcomes as part of their commitment to serving others. With the right support and tools, it's possible to process these experiences in healthy ways while maintaining meaningful connections, managing stress effectively, and preserving a sense of purpose both on and off duty.
Through evidence-based treatment and support, police officers and first responders can develop and strengthen skills to navigate their careers and lives with resilience.
Meet your therapist.
Kanika holds an undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and a graduate degree in Counselling Psychology from McGill University. Upon graduating, she trained under Dr. Joan Hillson, a psychologist in Airdrie who has dedicated her career to supporting police officers and first responders. This mentorship provided valuable insight into the unique psychological challenges faced by those in public safety professions.
Kanika approaches therapy as a collaborative journey within an empathetic, non-judgmental environment. Drawing from empirically-supported methods including Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Therapy, treatment is tailored to each client's unique experiences and needs.
Kanika's experience includes providing counselling for depression, anxiety, stress, and relationship issues, as well as facilitating mental health support groups. This diverse background informs a comprehensive approach to supporting first responders.
